The article is devoted to the historiographic analysis of the data on Derbent and its area, which are the part of the writing work of the German scientist, doctor of medicine Jacob Rejneggs, who twice visited Daghestan and, particu-larly, Derbent, at the end of the 1770-s and the beginning of the 1780-s, and collected interesting material on various questions of history, social and economic development and political position of the Daghestan peoples.
