The article investigates etiquette rules, without knowledge of which a full dialogue between representatives of different cultures is impossible. An attempt is made to investigate the question whether etiquette rules can be universal. The study reveals that national and cultural features of speech behavior of communicants-speakers of different languages, representatives of different cultures do not coincide. To achieve the harmonization of communication, it is necessary to combine verbal means with nonverbal ones. The article focuses on the analysis of the features of such a common gesture as a handshake used in a variety of speech cultures. The author reveals the features characteristic of individual cultures, draws attention to the fact that the handshake as a greeting is a gender-marked gesture not only in Daghestan but also in European culture.
