The article presents a linguistic and cultural analysis of phraseological units with an ornithonym component in the two genetically and typologically different languages: English and Lak. The units under study reveal both an international (using the names of the same animals to characterize the appearance or inner world of a person) and specific (presence of national and cultural phraseological units that reflect the idio-ethnic perception of the world in different languages).
