HORSE-DRAWN TRANSPORT USED BY THE PEOPLES OF DAGHESTAN (XIX - EARLY XX CENTURIES)

The article deals with the traditional types of horse-drawn transport used by the peoples of Daghestan in the XIX - early ХХ centuries: arba, sleigh, van, phaeton. The spread of one or another type of transport was due to natural and geographical living conditions and economic needs. In mountainous areas a two-wheeled arba with the small body dimensions and high wheels was used, on the plain - a massive four-wheeled arba and sleigh (in winter), in the coastal lowlands - a boat. Vans and phaetons were widespread in town. Horses, oxen, buffaloes, donkeys, mules served as a draft force until the beginning of the ХХ century.
