PEOPLE’S EPIC IN THE NATIONAL DRAMA OF DAGHESTAN THEATER ART IN THE 1946 - 1960s: HISTORICAL ASPECT

KULAEVA Albina D.

The article is devoted to a relevant and insufficiently studied topic - the history of embodiment of the epic genre on the stage of Daghestan national theaters at the time when the theatrical art of the multinational region entered a new stage of development, marked by increased attention from the state, growing level of professionalism, and wider audience. Using new sources, primarily archival ones, the most significant performances in the repertoire of national theaters are characterized, the names of playwrights, authors of plays based on the Daghestan epic are given sa well as the directors who performed them, artists who created vivid images of the epic heroes on the stage. The study was conducted on the basis of general scientific (historical, narrative) and special (comparative and historical, systemic) methods. The article is partly interdisciplinary in nature, since, if necessary, the research methods of art criticism were superimposed on the subject of historical research. The author shows how the oral folk art of the peoples of Daghestan, represented by the most famous epic works, was embodied on the Daghestan theater stage, tells about the most striking scenic images created by the Daghestan stage masters, the successes and shortcomings in the theaters of the republic, their assessment by the authorities, expressed in giving state awards to theater troupes and actors, and recognition of their merits by the audience. The study confirms the conclusion that the relevance of theatrical productions based on the folk epic works was largely explained by the fact that they reflected the most characteristic features of the process of the formation of a new society which welcomed justice, protest to the old system and desire for social equality. At the same time, the activities of the national theaters of Daghestan in the 1946 - 1960s to embody epic works on the theater stage enriches the history of Daghestan theater art, the culture of the multinational republic as a whole and each nation particularly.
