Using the example of the midday gerbil, it is shown that in order to study various aspects of rodent nutrition, it is necessary to apply an integrated approach using field and laboratory methods. Quantitative indicators of the intensity of rodent nutrition can be determined using balanced experiments with animals in cellular conditions. The proportion of animal feed in the diet of rodents can be determined by analyzing the contents of their stomachs under a binocular microscope. To determine the energy value of the feed eaten by rodents, a biochemical analysis of the feed directly eaten from the contents of the stomachs can be used. It is possible to identify the species composition of plants consumed by rodents using the method of microhistological cuticular coprological analysis.
