FEATURES OF THE EXPRESSION OF SPATIAL SEMANTICS “INSIDE A LANDMARK” IN THE LAK AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

The article presents an analysis of the lexical and grammatical means of the Lak and English languages that implement the semantics of spatial localization “inside a landmark”. In the Lak language this semantics is conveyed through the lexeme “viv” (“inside”) which can act both as an independent word - an adverb, and as function words - a postposition or a preverb. In English the semantics of spatial localization “inside a landmark” is conveyed by a number of prepositions and each has its own range of implementation. Using the methods of descriptive and comparative linguistics, revealed are similarities and differences in the implementation of spatial semantics “within a landmark” in two genetically and typologically different languages: Lak and English, due to differences in the grammatical structure of the languages under study. The material of the article will be useful for researchers of the semantics and syntax of the Daghestan languages as well as for teachers of the Lak schools teaching English.
