DAGHESTAN SCRIBERS OF THE XIV-XVI CENTURIES: THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THEIR ACTIVITIES BASED ON THE COLOPHONS OF ARABIC MANUSCRIPTS

The article is devoted to the study of colophons of the early period, XIV-XVI centuries, as a source on the history of the first Daghestan scribers. The lower chronological frame is determined due to the fact that the first Daghestan colophon dates back to precisely this period. The upper chronological frame is justified by the fact that in the XVII century the Arabic manuscript tradition in Daghestan begins a new stage, in which the majority of the scribers were not professional, but madrasah students and the madrasah became the main place of copying texts. The study shows that colophons are important and valuable historical sources, shedding light on many blind spots in the early history of the Arabic manuscript tradition of Daghestan.
