CONTRADICTIONS IN THE LEXICOGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF THE WORDS WITH AN INCOMPLETE NUMBER PARADIGM (ON THE MATERIAL OF THE SOUTH AND WEST LEZGIAN LANGUAGES)

The aim of the article is to highlight the contradictory cases of submitting material on the numerical markers in the lexicographic sources in the four Nakh-Daghestan languages of the Lezgian group belonging to the West Lezgian (Rutul and Tsakhur languages) and South Lezgian (Kryz and Budukh languages) subgroups. The choice of languages is dictated by their special genetic and grammatical affinity. Observations on the facts of lexicographic description of the words from the categories singularia tantum and pluralia tantum , called the units with an incomplete number paradigm, allowes to identify cases of heterogeneous presentation of their numerical status in the dictionaries of the Budukh, Kryz, Rutul and Tsakhur languages. The Budukh-Russian dictionary and, to some extent, the Tsakhur-Russian dictionary have frequent forms of pluralism reflecting abnormal colloquial speech. They contain the plural forms of abstract, real and collective nouns without reference to lexicalization or special semantics of plural forms. The subjective approach in determining the numerical status of nouns with an incomplete number paradigm in dictionaries is explained by the previous experience of a lexicographer, his level of language proficiency, peculiarities of dealing with informants, and the use of different approaches in interpreting linguistic facts. It is proposed to unify the presentation of the material within the framework of lexicographic sources on the basis of common principles based on the consideration of grammatical norms of languages.
