The article examines the traditional male and female costume complexes of the peoples of Daghestan as symbolic components of modern culture. The article gives the information on traditional clothing, collected, recorded, analyzed, systematized, and published in various studies by ethnographers, art critics and historians, on cut, material used, features of individual elements of folk clothing of the XIX - early XX centuries. The presence of the objects themselves, samples of ancient clothing stored in museums and private collections in Daghestan allow modern originative people to create conditions for actualization and immersion of this important object of material culture into the present life. It is shown that the imagery, features of decorative elements, jewelry that complements the national costume, originality of individual details of clothing are widely used by fashion designers, artists, potters, and jewelers in modern arts and crafts practices. Obviously, such a process determines a new approach to the objects of material culture, contributes to the formation of a brand of national clothing, related to the culture of the Daghestani peoples, the emergence of ethnic symbols, the established traditional images of Daghestanis, bearers of the authentic culture, and creates the opportunity for the commodification of culture in the developing tourism industry.
