CONTRIBUTION OF RUSSIAN RESEARCHERS AND MUSICIANS TO THE STUDY OF TRADITIONAL MUSIC OF DAGHESTAN IN THE 1920s: FORMING THE FOUNDATIONS OF ETHNOMUSIC STUDIES

ABDULLAEVA Elmira Bashirovna

The article analyzes the role and contribution of Russian academic researchers and musicians in the study of the traditional musical culture of Daghestan in the 1920s. It is shown how, during the period of cultural construction, based on the experience and methods of Russian scientists, with the support and direct participation of the governing structures of Daghestan, research directions in the study and popularization of traditional music took shape. Complex artistic and ethnographic expeditions to the villages of Daghestan provided valuable materials. Their comprehension, study and publication led to the creation of the first scientific works on the original musical tradition of the peoples of Daghestan, laid the foundation for scientific activity and contributed to the formation of professional forms of art. The author has set the task of showing the activities of Russian scientists, musicologists, composers, teachers, their interest and involvement in the study of the traditional musical culture of Daghestan. The results of their work, the publication of musical materials based on the results of expeditions and the creation of works based on authentic material have contributed to the popularization of traditional music and its expansion beyond the borders of the republic. The author comes to the conclusion that with the mentoring experience of Russian scientists and musicians, through joint efforts with emerging Daghestan specialists, the basis for the theoretical study of traditional music has matured. The established methodology of scientific research has yielded results in the form of theoretical and applied research works. They served as an impetus for the formation of composer creativity and the creation of a repertoire of Daghestan professional music.
