The unpublished source extracted from the funds of the Russian State Archives highlights the issue of regulating the socio-legal status of Persian merchants who carried out Russian-Persian trade and lived in Astrakhan in the 1820s. It demonstrates that the Persians were well versed in Russian legislation and reacted to all attempts by local authorities to ignore the Gulistan Peace Treaty as a document regulating trade, duties and legal status. The introduction of this document into scientific circulation makes it possible to expand scientific ideas about the interaction of the Russian authorities with representatives of the trading elite of Persia in the first quarter of the XIX century.
