Theoretical understanding of the Lezgin grammatical system has advanced significantly in recent decades. However, the 2009 normative reference work - The Modern Lezgin Language, intended for use in literature, education, publishing, and media - is grounded in the grammatical theory of the 1950s. The intervening period was marked by intensive development in linguistic theory, which led to a substantially updated paradigm for analyzing the Lezgin language. Within this new framework, several core grammatical categories received their first in-depth theoretical interpretation. Despite these scholarly advances, the content of the 2009 publication fails to reflect subsequent research findings.
