ON SYNONYMS AND THE STRUCTURE OF THE LEZGHIN SYNONYM DICTIONARY

This article addresses the understudied problem of synonymy in Daghestan languages, with a specific focus on the Lezgin lexicography. While synonymy in Russian has been extensively researched and documented in lexicology, lexicography, and numerous specialized dictionaries, its systematic study in the languages of Daghestan remains limited at the lexical level and is virtually absent in lexicographic practice. The present work examines the theoretical and methodological challenges of synonymy within this context and introduces a set of principles developed by the authors for compiling a synonym dictionary of the Lezgin language. To illustrate the application of these principles, the article concludes with a sample entry from the proposed dictionary.
