Митохондрии играют центральную роль в энергетическом метаболизме эукариот, осуществляя функции клеточного дыхания и обеспечивая большую часть синтеза АТР - главного источника энергии в живой клетке. Показано, что митохондрии могут быть использованы в качестве бесконтактного и неинвазивного биосенсора для оценки токсических эффектов амфифильных химических соединений. На примере эффектов антимикробных пептидов - мастопарана, аламетицина и мелиттина (индуцирующих проницаемость биологических мембран) на митохондрии определены качественные и количественные параметры, определяющие молекулярный механизм их действия. Обсуждены преимущества и недостатки митохондриального биосенсора по сравнению с традиционными искусственными системами (БЛМ, липосомы). Предложенный подход может быть эффективен для оценки токсического действия на митохондрии амфифильных митохондриально ориентированных соединений при сравнительном рутинном тестировании перспективных лекарственных препаратов.
