The article examines the emergence and development of Deshlagar, the headquarters of the 83rd Samur Infantry Regiment. Shown is the ethnic composition of the population, participation of Deshlagar in trade relations with the nearby villages of the Dargin district, its role in obtaining secular education for mountain children. Deshlagar is shown as a site of European culture in traditional Daghestan.
