GRAMMATICALIZATION OF SPEECH VERBS IN SOME OF TSEZIC LANGUAGES: NARRATIVE AND QUOTATIVE

KHALILOVA Zaira Madzhidovna

Grammaticalization of speech verbs is a widespread process in the Daghestan languages. The quotative particle, which is grammalicalized from the past form of speech verb, is used to mark the dependent clause. In the West-Tsezic languages, such particle is used as a quotative marking direct and indirect speech, whereas in the East-Tsezic languages the particle has two functions: it is used as a quotative and as a narrative particle.
