The article analyzes the materials about the everyday life, customs of the highlanders, collected by Lev N. Tolstoy during his stay in Daghestan, and used by him in his Caucasian works, including the story “Hadji-Murat”. It is noted that L.N. Tolstoy used his own observations on the details of the life of the highlanders which make his Caucasian works an original and valuable source on the daily life of the highlanders.
