The research topic is relevant from the point of view of the correlation between the declared reform objectives of social policy in the agrarian sphere and the results of its implementation. The aim of the article is to show the changes in the living conditions of villagers in the conditions of modernization processes of 1950-1960s. On the basis of the principle of historicism and comparative-historical, logical, problem-chronological methods it is shown that the need to improve the living conditions of the rural population of the republic was dictated not only by the task of fixing the youth in the village, but also by the achievement of the strategic goal - equalization of socio-economic differences between urban and rural areas. An important feature of the improvement of everyday life along with the growth of real incomes, is the improvement of housing and living conditions. It is noted that in Daghestan, to create decent living conditions in rural areas, housing construction was launched, which contributed to the transformation of the image of mountain villages. Another important task was the development of transportation in the difficult conditions of the mountainous republic. It is stated that in the period under consideration things were not so favorable in this sphere.
