The article, largely, for the first time in Russian historiography, based on population census materials and statistical data, examines the historical and demographic aspect of changes in the population of a multinational region, and traces its gender, age and national composition. The work traces marriage and divorce rates among the rural and urban population of the republic. At the end of the work the author comes to the reasonable conclusion that Daghestan remains one of the few regions of the country in which the overall population growth continues.
