THE EVERYDAY MINISTRY OF THE ORTHODOX CLERGY IN DAGHESTAN IN THE CONTEXT OF THE REGION'S INTEGRATION INTO THE EMPIRE'S SOCIOCULTURAL SPACE (XIX - EARLY XX CENTURIES)

Based on the collection and analysis of a wide range of documents from the Central State Archive of the Republic of Daghestan, the article examines certain aspects of the social, everyday ministry of Orthodox clergy, using the example of the military department in the region during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The article not only provides an analysis within the context of the general characteristics of the social policy of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian state as a whole but also identifies general features and specific characteristics related to the process of the region's integration into the sociocultural space of the empire. Several directions of social ministry are identified and examined, including the construction of Orthodox churches in the region, missionary service, and issues related to the educational process. Particular attention is paid to the role of charity, including during periods of military conflict, when social problems such as orphanhood, widowhood, and an increase in disability become acute.
