STRUCTURAL AND SEMANTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PHYTONYMIC LEXIS IN THE DARGIN DIALECTS

This article attempts to investigate the structure and methods of nominating phytonyms in the Dargin dialects. Certain types of semantic derivation identified in these vernaculars are specifically dialectal in nature, reflecting unique semantic connections that highlight the specificity of the dialectal language. Actually, it is precisely dialectal phytonymics that constitutes the most interesting material for research. The great diversity of plants, the multiplicity of their uses in the daily life of rural inhabitants, and their inclusion in folk sacred practices and folklore motifs determine the richness of the lexical-semantic group of phytonyms within the overall vocabulary of the dialects. The conducted analysis has shown that the identified universal and unique models of metaphorical and metonymic transfer are productive and are of interest for both theory and practice of comparative studies.
