The article analyzes the linguistic situation in the Republic of Daghestan which is characterized by ethnic diversity and multilingualism. The relevance of the research topic is due to the need of monitoring the trends in the development of a unique linguistic community on the example of the single Chechen language. The article provides information on the Chechen language in the sociolinguistic aspect, which provides information on the belonging of the language to a particular family or group of languages, on social status, area of distribution, number of speakers, provides information on dialect differentiation, provides a brief overview of the features of the sound system, grammar and vocabulary, presents the analysis of sociolinguistic parameters of the Chechen language, the specifics of the functioning of the Chechen language in Daghestan are characterized.
